Ruinspoke

A frontier city in southern Tymanther, Ruinspoke is a classic outpost city with a population of only slightly over 5,000, but with substantial services for adventurers. It is the second-largest city in Tymanther, after the capital Djerad Thymar. It is located near the central ruins of Unthalass, and Untheric ruins are scattered about the countryside outside the city walls.

Like most frontier towns, the economic and bureaucratic functions of Ruinspoke are managed by House Jalt. The current city regent is Lord Tuanek, who is notable for having increased the size and population of Ruinspoke by 25% percent during his 8 year tenure, and its industrial output by 40%. He has done so by making Ruinspoke unusually safe- the Tymanther military is managed from Djerad Thymar, and regents are powerless to request their services. Instead of demanding protection, Lord Tuanek has made shrewd use of the city coffers to build impressive fortifications, transforming Ruinspoke into a prime strategic location.

Tuanek has also kept the area around Ruinspoke clear of monsters and bandits by hiring mercenary and adventuring bands to patrol the area and investigate ruins. Much of the non-humanoid and demi-humanoid threat from nearby ruins has been either eliminated or suppressed. The only major source of danger for the town remains in the Temple of Gilgeam atop Ruinspoke Mountain. Attempts to dislodge an aggressive tribe of Kobolds has resulted in the death of three contracts, and raids continue unabated.
